設計應該具備的十項標準 / 設計十誡

早在80年代初，迪特爾·拉姆斯開始日益關注他周圍的世界-“形狀，顏色和噪音的難以理解的混亂不堪。”

意識到這些使他成為對設計界具有重大貢獻的人。

他開始問自己：“我的設計是優秀的設計嗎？”

正因為好的設計沒有一個明確的度量標準，於是他開始提出他認為好的設計應該具備的十條標準。

（這些標準常被人們稱為“十誡”）

自1943年至1957年，拉姆斯便在威斯巴登工藝學校（Werkkunstschule Wiesbaden）攻讀建築與學習木工。1953年至1955年，他曾為建築師奧圖·阿培爾（Otto Apel）短暫地工作，隨後便加入家電用品製造商百靈的設計部門，同時期建立起與烏爾姆造型學院的產學合作關係，1961年晉升為百靈首席設計師，一直到1995年仍留有這個頭銜。

拉姆斯曾經闡述他的設計理念是「少，卻更好」（Less, but better，德文：Weniger, aber besser），與現代主義建築大師密司·凡·得羅的名言「少即是多（Less is more）」對比出有趣的意涵。他與他的設計團隊為百靈設計出許多經典產品，包括著名的留聲機SK-4（素有「白雪公主之棺」之暱稱），和高品質的D系列幻燈片投影機D45、D46。

他也為傢具製造商Vitsœ設計606萬用置物櫃系統（1960年）而聞名。

他的許多設計，諸如咖啡機、計算機、收音機、視聽設備、家電產品與辦公產品，都成為世界各地博物館的永久收藏，包括紐約的現代藝術博物館。迪特·拉姆斯領導百靈的設計部門將近30年，直到他在1998年退休。之後他的動向持續受到設計界的高度關注，目前也有他的作品回顧展覽在世界巡迴展出。

2010年，科隆國際設計學校的學生頒發『Kölner Klopfer』獎項予迪特·拉姆斯，以表彰他對全球設計界的貢獻。

設計十誡 / Ten principles for good design.

• 好的設計是謙虛的 (Good design is unobtrusive)
• 好的設計是誠實的 (Good design is honest)
• 好的設計堅固耐用 (Good design is durable)
• 好的設計是細緻的 (Good design is thorough to the last detail)
• 好的設計是環保的 (Good design is concerned with the environment)
• 好的設計是極簡的 (Good design is as little design as possible)

1. 優秀的設計應該是創新的 / 

Good design is innovative.

創新的可能性是永遠存在並且不會消耗殆盡的。

科技日新月異的發展不斷為創新設計提供了嶄新的機會。

同時創新設計總是伴隨著科技的進步而向前發展，永遠不會完結。

The possibilities for innovation are not, by any means, exhausted. Technological development is always offering new opportunities for innovative design. But innovative design always develops in tandem with innovative technology, and can never be an end in itself.

2. 優秀的設計讓產品更加實用 / 

Good design makes a product useful.

產品買來是要使用的。

至少要滿足某些基本標準,，不但是功能，也要體現在使用者的購買心裡和產品的審美上。

優秀的設計強調實用性的同時也不能忽略其它方面，不然產品就會大打折扣。

A product is bought to be used. It has to satisfy certain criteria, not only functional, but also psychological and aesthetic. Good design emphasises the usefulness of a product whilst disregarding anything that could possibly detract from it.

3. 優秀的設計是美的 / 

Good design is aesthetic.

 產品的美感是實用性不可或缺的一部分，因為每天使用的產品都無時無刻的影響著人類和我們的生活。

但是只有精湛的東西才可能是美的。

The aesthetic quality of a product is integral to its usefulness because products we use every day affect our person and our well-being. But only well-executed objects can be beautiful.

4. 優秀的設計使產品更容易被讀懂 / 

Good design makes a product understandable.

 優秀的設計讓產品的結構清晰明瞭。

更強大的是它能讓產品自己說話。

最好是一切能夠不解自明。

It clarifies the product’s structure. Better still, it can make the product talk. At best, it is self-explanatory.

5. 優秀的設計是謙虛的 / 

Good design is unobtrusive.

產品要像工具一樣能夠達成某種目的。它們既不是裝飾物也不是藝術品。因此它們應該是中庸的，帶有約束的，這樣會給使用者的個性表現上留有一定空間。

 Products fulfilling a purpose are like tools. They are neither decorative objects nor works of art. Their design should therefore be both neutral and restrained, to leave room for the user’s self-expression.

6. 優秀的設計是誠實的 / 

Good design is honest.

不要誇張產品本身的創意，功能的強大和其價值。也不要試圖用實現不了的承諾去欺騙消費者。

It does not make a product more innovative, powerful or valuable than it really is. It does not attempt to manipulate the consumer with promises that cannot be kept.

7. 優秀的設計經得起歲月的考驗 / 

Good design is long-lasting.

它使產品避免成為短暫時尚反而看上去永遠都不會過時。

和時尚設計不同的是，它會被人們接受並使用很多年甚至是在當今被一次性商品充斥的社會。

It avoids being fashionable and therefore never appears antiquated. Unlike fashionable design, it lasts many years – even in today’s throwaway society.

8. 優秀的設計是考慮周到並且不放過每個細節的 / 

Good design is thorough down to the last detail.

 任何細節都不能敷衍了事或者懷有僥倖心理。

設計過程中的悉心和精確是對消費者的一種尊敬。

Nothing must be arbitrary or left to chance. Care and accuracy in the design process show respect towards the user.

9. 優秀的設計是關懷環境的 / 

Good design is environmentally-friendly.

設計能夠對保護環境起到極大的貢獻。

讓產品在整個生命週期內減少對資源的浪費，降低對自然的破壞並且不要產生視覺污染。

Design makes an important contribution to the preservation of the environment. It conserves resources and minimises physical and visual pollution throughout the lifecycle of the product.

10. 優秀的設計是簡潔的 / 

Good design is as little design as possible.

簡潔，但是要更好–因為它濃縮了產品所必須的具備因素，剔除了不必要的東西。

“大道至簡，平淡為歸”

Less, but better – because it concentrates on the essential aspects, and the products are not burdened with non-essentials.

Back to purity, back to simplicity.
